The LBT likes to travel. We pop up in community centre’s and schools, carnivals and fetes, to all corners of our Kirklees home. We develop close partnerships with communities and schools and deliver everything from outreach Youth Theatres to family creative play sessions, circus skills workshops to music and dance projects.
Our Community Engagement department can currently be found out in…
Ashbrow We are running a whole range of projects in the Ashbrow ward. We run families in action sessions at Christchurch Woodhouse School, which are creative play sessions for children and their parents. We run creative workshops for Brackenhall Kidz and Teenz Klub and young people from Whitacre Close. We also make regular visits to Playmates Nursery with music and movement workshops. Every year we support the Deighton Carnival providing artists for their Carnival costume workshops and running the LBT Imagine Tent – full of exciting arts activities for children and families.
For information on activities in Ashbrow, please contact Maggie O’Keeffe (Outreach Arts Worker).
Crosland Moor
For information on activities in Crosland Moor, please contact Madeleine Thorne (Participation Officer).
In partnership with schools Our current partner school is Royds Hall High School. Under our schools partnerships scheme we offer special projects, ticket offers, access to work experience and much more. Last term we helped the school with their production of Oliver! and we are now running an advanced Youth Theatre in Residence for pupils who are keen to develop their performance skills. For information on activities in partnership with schools, please contact Madeleine Thorne (Participation Officer).
Last year the LBT helped over 400 young people realise their potential through creative activity... come join us. |
Carine, 15, has taken part in activities at the LBT for nearly 2 years. After taking part in a circus skills project, she was encouraged to join the LBT’s open access Youth Theatre and went on to audition for the more advanced group. She says:
“I was nervous on the first week about whether I would make new friends or not. But I’ve met such amazing people who are all so kind.”
Carine has come a long way since meeting the LBT, recently performing at the Regional Youth theatre Festival, York. “I got to watch other people’s performances and that was great. Then I got to perform our own play that we’re doing which was amazing.” |
